Seriously though, I'm not normally the sort to jump on this kind of thing, but the whole 'Jalopnik: Cars, Planes, Bikes, Space and Apple' thing is starting to irk a little. I mean, it's not like we're getting occasional reposts about big consumer technology news in general—it's just Apple. Google announced a new tablet and phone yesterday, and there was nothing.
I've nothing against Apple - okay, that isn't strictly true, but I've only slightly more distaste for them than I do Google, and I own and use products from both companies - but I just don't like seeing them get such undue prominence on a site that generally has absolutely nothing to do with consumer technology.
...
Of course, for all I know, they may be planning to announce that the new iPad will be capable of transforming into a skateboard-esque wheeled conveyance. If so, I'll happily consider the announcement firmly within the site's purview, and probably buy one, too.

I don't care for apple at all. But product placement brings money so there ya go. I agree it's irksome but the sight is free so there's that.

It's because Jalopnik is alarmingly hipster.

I don't normally agree with posts like this, but I agree with this.

You're right, of course—it's just annoying.

Well short of starting your own site where you only cater to your interests, there's not much you can do. If there's a story you don't want to read it's super easy not to read it.

how is apple hipster? Anyone that doesn't have Ebola knows about apple, the company. So it can't possibly be hipster, everyone knows about it.
Or is it this halfass hipster "tragically ironic" thing?

I didn't click on it. I just didn't like that it was there, and I don't think it's unreasonable to voice some degree of irritation at one specific company being able to command such a presence on a site that generally doesn't report on the consumer technology sector. There are other sites for that sort of thing, and I do visit a few; I just don't want to see it here.

It was mainly a joke. All the people who act like hipsters but deny that they are hipsters seem to gravitate towards/worship apple products around here.

Because Gizmodo makes more money that Jalopnik and keeps the lights on in here. I don't like it either (I don't like it ALOT actually) but its the reality of the situation. If and when it progresses to the point where Jalopnik is just a car themed share portal only there to fit a niche in the gawkerverse revenue stream...then I'm out. We aren't there yet.

I feel your pain man, but you just have to ignore it. The sponsored posts and gas card thing drive me crazy too, don't even get me started on Tweets shared to oppo. It's just how things are done here. Ignore it or it will annoy you to the point of madness.

Indeed, we are not. I understand that the motivation is likely largely financial, and I'd certainly rather this than the site go under, or start running utterly ridiculous ads... But it still annoys me.
It's an interesting paradox: a big part of why this annoys me is that it's just Apple stuff that gets this kind of treatment, and the solution there would be to have reposts of prominent consumer tech news in general... But that'd just lead to more non-car stuff on the FP, and I definitely don't want that.

I think that's even more true here, where - if the statistics are to be believed, at least - Apple products tend to be a decent bit less popular than they are in the US.

There needs to be a Jalopnik Core option, just like Kotaku Core. Jalopnik Core is all the srs car news - no NPoCP, no Torch articles, no fluff.

I like a good bit of the fluff - it ought be pointed out that I do actually follow consumer tech news, just on other sites - but you're right. It'd be a great option to have.

Maybe Matt heard "A8 Processor" and got confused...
But more likely Jalopnik is required to get some clicks for other Gawker Media sites. If they were doing it all the time, it would bother me but they're not.

Only reason is because there are alternatives that look like iStuff . the last product that looked vaguely like a iThing was made by Samsung. And we all ever what happened with that.

What does hipster mean?
Nothing. It means nothing.
